Split Pea and Ham

Ingredients

1.5oz butter

4oz Split Peas

1 medium sized potato

1 stick of celery

1 medium onion

4 tablespoons of natural yoghurt

2oz lean ham off the bone

1.5 pints of water

1 level teaspoon of salt

fresh ground pepper

 

Method

Cover and soak the split peas for about 3 hours and then drain off the water. Chop up the ham, onion and celery and saute in the butter. Peel and grate up the potato and add to a saucepan along with the other ingredients (except the pepper and yoghurt.) Bring to the boil and then add pepper. Cover the pan and simmer for 2 hours on a low heat.  Serve with the yoghurt
